Hass avocado sales soared to four-year highs in the first quarter, thanks to major holidays like the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day.
According to the Hass Avocado Board’s (HAB) latest retail summary, sales volume grew during the main holidays, resulting in a total of 150 million units and $144 million in retail sales.
According to HAB, it offers quarterly statistics on national holiday retail sales performance as the only independent avocado group that equips the whole sector for success.
Retailers, category managers, and industry leaders can use the holiday reports to plan holiday specials and look for ways to increase avocado sales in the next year.

The Game of the Century
The Super Bowl is one of the most important avocado weeks of the year. Hass avocado volume grew 5% to 57.6 million units this year, while dollar sales increased 1% to $51.2 million, compared to the previous year.
Avocado sellers observed average sales of $1,335 and 1,502 units per store during Big Game week.
The West had the most avocado units sold per store. Similarly, California, the South Central, and the Southeast sold more per store than the national average.
The selling prices varied greatly between regions, ranging from $0.67 per unit in the South Central to $1.09 per unit in the Northeast.
Valentine’s Day is on February 14th this year.
In 2021, compared to 2020, Valentine’s Day dollar sales increased by 9%, and volume increased by 24%.
All regions experienced double-digit volume growth, with the Northeast leading the way with 52 percent.
Retailers also averaged 1,230 units per location. The West, South Central, California, and the Southeast all had more units per store than the national average.
Nationally, dollar sales increased by $3.7 million. Dollar increases were seen in seven of the eight locations.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th.
St. Patrick’s Day sales grew 1% year over year to 45.2 million units nationwide.
During the holiday week, avocado retailers witnessed average sales of $1,244 and 1,183 units per store.
Per-store unit sales in the West, South Central, California, and the Southeast were higher than the national average. In terms of dollar sales per store, the West, California, and the Southeast regions all outperformed the national average.
The average selling price per unit in the South Central region ranged from $0.76 to $1.31 in the California region.
